EAD2027 Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is the submission deadline? Will it be extended?
The final submission deadline is 30 September 2026 (23:59, Porto/Lisbon time, UTC+1). Please note that no further extensions will be granted.
2. Can I submit just an abstract?
Standalone abstracts are not allowed; all papers must be submitted in full through the Microsoft CMT platform by the deadline.
3. How is the conference proceedings publication organised?
All accepted and presented contributions will be published in the EAD2027 Conference Proceedings in open access. Each published contribution will receive an individual DOI.
4. Will the proceedings be indexed?
After publication, the Book of Proceedings will be submitted for indexing in the Web of Science. Please note that indexing cannot be guaranteed, as it depends on the evaluation and acceptance procedures of the indexing service. However, previous EAD conference proceedings have been successfully indexed in the Web of Science.
5. Will papers be published in The Design Journal?
The Conference Proceedings and The Design Journal are separate publication outputs. All accepted and presented papers will be published in the Conference Proceedings. In addition, the authors of a selection of the best conference papers will be invited to submit extended versions of their work for consideration in The Design Journal. This will involve a separate publication process from the Conference Proceedings and will be subject to the journal's editorial and peer-review procedures.
6. Must authors present their paper for it to be published?
Yes. For a paper to be included in the Conference Proceedings, at least one author must register for the conference and present the paper, either in person or online.
7. Is online participation possible?
Yes. Authors may choose to present online. This option should be selected during registration. Accepted and presented papers delivered online are eligible for publication in the Proceedings under the same conditions as in-person presentations.
8. Are there scholarships or registration fee waivers?
No. EAD2027 does not currently offer scholarships, fee waivers, or dedicated funding schemes. Authors concerned about costs may wish to consider the online participation option, which has a lower registration fee and avoids travel and accommodation expenses.
9. Can I submit more than one paper?
Yes. There is no formal limit on the number of submissions by the same author. However:
Each submission must constitute an original and distinct contribution.
Papers should not substantially overlap in content, research questions, data, or findings.
10. Can I submit to more than one track or category?
Yes. Authors may submit to different tracks and categories provided that the submissions are distinct contributions and should not substantially overlap in content.
11. Can a co-author also submit another paper?
Yes. Co-authors may submit other papers as authors or co-authors, provided that each submission represents a different piece of work.
12. How many papers can one person present with a single registration?
A single registration allows one person to present up to two papers.
13. Are Position Papers published in the Conference Proceedings?
Yes. Position Papers are peer reviewed and published in the Conference Proceedings, receiving an individual DOI. They are presented during conference sessions, similarly to Full Research Papers.
14. Are Practice-Based Research Papers published in the Conference Proceedings?
Yes. Practice-Based Research Papers are published in the Conference Proceedings and receive an individual DOI. They will have the same publication status as other accepted paper categories.
15. Are Workshop Proposals published in the Conference Proceedings?
Yes. Accepted and presented Workshop Proposals are eligible for publication in the Conference Proceedings and receive an individual DOI.
16. Are Exhibition Proposals published in the Conference Proceedings?
Yes. Accepted and presented Exhibition Proposals are eligible for publication in the Conference Proceedings and receive an individual DOI.
17. What is included in the word count?
Only the main body text counts towards the specified word limit. Word counts do not include abstract, references, figure captions, tables, appendices.
18. Do Visual Essays/Pictorials have to follow a specific format?
Yes. Visual Essays/Pictorials should follow the A4 portrait format, remain readable and suitable for review. However, authors are given greater flexibility concerning typography, layout, image placement, visual composition. There is no mandatory column structure.
19. Can videos be included?
Yes. Authors may include links to videos during submission. Please ensure that:
Videos comply with double-blind review requirements;
No identifying author information is revealed.
For conference presentations, MP4 is the recommended format.
20. Can previous conference abstracts be developed into an EAD2027 paper?
Yes. If only an abstract was previously published or presented, and no full paper was published, a substantially expanded paper remains eligible. However, the submitted abstract should not simply be a direct translation or reproduction of the earlier abstract.
21. How should I cite my own previous work during double-blind review?
Self-references should be anonymised. For example: Author (2026)
The full citation can be restored after acceptance.
22. Do I need ethics approval?
Research involving human participants should include a clear explanation of the ethical procedures followed. Information regarding ethical considerations should be provided within the paper itself. Where formal institutional ethics approval was not required, authors should explain:
How participants were informed about the research;
How consent was obtained;
How anonymity and confidentiality were ensured;
Any other relevant ethical procedures adopted during the study.
The aim is to enable reviewers and readers to understand how ethical considerations were addressed, regardless of whether formal approval by an institutional ethics committee was required.
23. Do I need a Google Scholar, Semantic Scholar, or DBLP profile?
No. These identifiers are not mandatory. Authors who do not have Google Scholar, Semantic Scholar, or DBLP profiles remain fully eligible to submit.
24. What is the conference policy on AI?
AI tools may be used as assistive technologies. Examples of acceptable uses include:
Language editing;
Grammar correction;
Improving clarity;
Organising text;
Retrieval and structuring of material.
Authors must take full responsibility for all content and clearly disclose relevant AI use in the manuscript.
AI should not be used to:
Generate original scholarly arguments;
Create research findings;
Invent evidence;
Produce substantive intellectual content that is then adopted as the author's own.
The key principle is that the research question, conceptual framework, methodology, analysis, evidence, conclusions, and intellectual contribution must remain the author's own.
Where AI has played a meaningful role in writing support, authors are encouraged to include in the paper a short disclosure statement explaining how it was used.
25. What timezone applies to deadlines?
All deadlines follow Porto/Lisbon time (UTC+1 during summer time). The final submission deadline is 30 September 2026, 23:59 (Porto/Lisbon time).
